About Building Surveys

A Building Survey is the most comprehensive condition report you can have on a property. It provides a detailed insight into the condition and state of repair of all elements of a building’s envelope and components and runs into many pages in length.

The survey will provide an expert overview of the whole property, including all of its elements and components, and detail the condition of each, highlighting any defects and likely remedial works that may be required.

Why get a Building Survey?

Building surveys can be carried out at any time in order to give you an overview of the condition of a property and to advise you on any statutory issues that may exist relating to it. Most common however is for a building survey to be carried out either when buying or selling a property.

Buying a Property

If you are thinking of buying a property, this will likely be one of the biggest investments of your life, and should there be any major hidden problems this can set you back thousands of pounds.

A Building Survey will give you peace of mind about the condition of the building, and furthermore, should the survey identify any defects in the property you may be able to negotiate a reduced price with the vendor in light of the remedial works that you may need to carry out.

When selling a property, a building survey can be the equivalent of an MOT for your house. It gives the potential buyer peace of mind about the condition of the property and shows that you are selling in a open and honest way. This builds confidence in the potential buyer and can increase the chances of the sale going through.
